Choose Queenstown for your winter holiday!

Choose Queenstown!

So you’re looking at a winter destination holiday or a short break? New Zealand offers a fantastic range of snow-related holiday options, from Mt Ruapehu in the North to the unique club fields and larger ski resorts in the South.

So why choose Queenstown? Obviously, we are a little biased, but that comes from a long history of living and working in this stunning region. It’s our privilege to share why you should choose Queenstown as your number 1 winter and ski or snowboard destination!

Accessibility

Probably the most obvious reason is accessibility. Queenstown is less than a 2-hour flight from Auckland and not much more than 3 hours from South Australia or East Coast Australia. Upon arrival into Queenstown, you are only minutes from your accommodation - it’s just that easy. In fact, many of our Australian customers tell us it’s easier, quicker and cheaper to fly to Queenstown than it is to fly from Queensland to Sydney or Melbourne and commute to Thredbo! And to ski the North Island of NZ still means either a flight into Auckland or Wellington and a 3-4 hour commute to Ruapehu.
And upon arrival into Queenstown, there’s not the1hr20 minute commute over the alpine valley pass to Cardrona - and that’s on a good clear day with no snow - On snow days or high frost days, you may have to drive around via Cromwell at 1hr40minutes! Compare this to the extremely quick commute from Queenstown International Airport to Spinnaker Bay Apartments - just a 10-minute drive, with another 5 minutes delivering you into the heart of Queenstown!

Local Accessibility

From Spinnaker Bay Apartments, you are no more than a 20 minutes drive to the car park on Coronet Peak and 40 minutes to the car park at The Remarkables. Regardless of what you’ve read elsewhere, it's impossible to safely get from Wanaka to the resort car parks of Cardrona or Treble Cone in anywhere close to an hour, making Queenstown a destination of choice.

Range of Off-Slope Activities

On those ‘bad weather’ days, those ‘I hurt so bad, I can’t ski’ days, and those ‘see ya, I’m going wine tasting’ days, playing in and exploring Queenstown will keep you well occupied. There simply isn’t any other adventure location in NZ or OZ that comes close to offering such an amazing, varied suite of activities and stuff to do. From wine tasting to cruising, from exploring Arrowtown to Glenorchy, Queenstown has a whole host of off-the-snow activities that will keep you busy and Inspired!

And let’s not forget that from Queenstown, you are ideally located to combine your ski holiday with other stunning destinations such as Cromwell, Milford Sound, Glenorchy, and Arrowtown. You can take day trips or multi-day excursions to experience the wider area's diverse natural beauty and attractions.
