The Frankton Trail - a beautiful Queenstown Walk or Ride

The Frankton Trail

The Frankton Trail offers a beautiful day out for a hike or for a simple walk into town from our lakeside accommodation and executive apartments at Spinnaker Bay.

Walking left or right from the hotel, it's a flat walk along the lake on a stone trail - super easy and flat and boarding the water the whole way!

The Frankton trail in Queenstown NZ is our access into town

Walk the Frankton Trail from our lakeside apartments into Queenstown NZ

One of the things we love about the location of Spinnaker Bay is the accessibility to the Frankton Track! The walking track wraps around Lake Wakatipu and makes for a perfect trail for walking, running, or biking. Whether cycling or hiking the trail winds in and out of the bush canopy along the Lake for the whole 8km round trip with lovely views across to the Remarkables and Kelvin Heights.  The trail is easy with no climbs more than just a few meters.

Ride, walk or maybe a run?

From the apartments you can walk or ride in the direction of the Frankton Peninsula and the end of the lake or back towards town and the Queenstown Gardens. Both make for a very gentle enjoyable outing. At the Frankton end of the trail public toilets are available. It's one of the few bike rides in mountainous Queenstown that is relatively flat the whole way. It's great for beginners, and families and one of the more popular all-round rides in town. If you are looking for a longer bike ride, or maybe a bit of a trail run, consider extending your route all the way past Frankton Beach and over the Kawarau Bridge and along the Kelvin Heights trail. This track can take you as far as your legs can carry you including a nice loop around the Kelvin Heights Golf Course and all the way back to your apartment - a total of close to 20km.

So if you're considering visiting Queenstown, then Come Stay and Play with us and enjoy the benefits of a causal walk into town or a more challenging exercise route around the peninsular and out towards Jacks Point.
